Our story
Twenty years in the Marsh
The Panthers have been running for over twenty years and have been part of the Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association since it began in 2012.
Who we are
The Panthers are a family friendly club with families at the heart of what we stand for. We strongly encourage diversity and provide players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate, grow as players, and develop into great team players — where key characteristics such as resilience, perseverance, team spirit, respect and teamwork shine through.
As at 2022 the club had 33 teams registered, from Under 8 girls and boys through to senior women's and men's basketball, across multiple divisions and age groups. Our junior teams were made up of around 240 players.
The Panthers provide an opportunity and a pathway to senior men's, women's and representative basketball for Bacchus Marsh. We're proud of our members who are also local and representative referees and coaches.
Club size is quoted as at 2022, the most recent figure published by the association. It has grown since — the committee should update this line with a current, dated number.
Where we sit
The club and the association
The Bacchus Marsh Basketball Association runs basketball in the Marsh: the domestic competition, the venues, the referees, and the representative program. It was formed in 2012, and the Panthers have been a member club since its inception.
There are four clubs in the association — Lightning, Magic, Panthers and Saints. You register with a club and play against the others each week.
Representative basketball works differently: selected players represent the association as Bacchus Marsh Lions in the VJBL and CBL, rather than playing for their club.
How it runs
Volunteers, all of it
A volunteer committee
President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, general committee members and a Child Safety Officer — all parents and club members, none of them paid.
Parent coaches
Most of our coaches are parents who put their hand up. The association runs coach development and Basketball Victoria provides the resources.
Not-for-profit
Fees and sponsorship cover uniforms, court costs and equipment. Anything left over goes back into the club and into helping families who need it.
